WATER TREATMENT SELF CLEANING FILTERS
When you have suspended solids that interfere with your downstream processes, installing a self cleaning filter before your existing equipment will improve the consistency, run time and effectiveness of your process plant.

Continuous
-
Your processing line remains in forward flow production, even while the filter undergoes its cleaning cycle. No production downtime, no need to replace filter bags or cartridges.

Quality standards
-
Certified DM 174/2004 for drinking water contact.

Adaptable
-
Our range of filter media caters to a wide range of situations. From woven mesh for fine filtration, polypropylene or stainless steel screens, to brush cleaning on stainless perforated media for the most demanding applications.

Applications
Water Treatment Plant Intake Screening
Self cleaning filters used to screen for particulates before going on for further processing in municipal water treatment plants reduce the load on the initial treatment steps.
Prefilter for Reverse Osmosis
Our filters are often used upstream of a reverse osmosis water treatment plant to ensure that suspended solids are removed, allowing the membrane filter to act as intended.
Drinking Water Systems
Fine filtration down to 1 micron for drinking water distribution systems, to ensure consistency and security of the water.
Cooling Water Treatment
When water is drawn from an outdoor source (lake, seawater etc.) it is recommended to use a pre-filtration system to remove debris from the water, before it enter the plant use or heat exchangers.

Technical Details
Mode of operation:
Within the outer casing is a cylindrical filter element.
The fluid to be treated enters the inside of the filter element. The fluid passes to the outside of the filter element, this clean fluid then is discharged at the outlet and continues on to subsequent processing steps.
The solid particles or contaminants remain on the inside surface of the filter element. Periodically a set of suction heads rotate on this dirty filter surface and draw off the solid particles. These are then discharged to waste, and the filter is clean again.
This self cleaning operation happens without interrupting the process flow, and without needing any intervention by plant operators.
Flowrates: Up to 65 m3/hr with a single filter. Higher flowrates use multiple filters in parallel.
Degree of filtration: Effective filtration / pre-filtration of particulates to xxx micron
Filter media:
To 5 microns with woven sintered fibre SS316
To 25 microns with mesh SS316
Materials of construction:
Most filter housings are constructed from SS316
Case Studies

Pre-filtration before water treatment
Our self cleaning filters are well suited to removing suspended solids before they reach the activated carbon filter.
The key benefits are extended activated carbon life, and a reduced pressure loss across the carbon filter. These benefits are because the removal of larger particles in advance avoids the carbon bed from becoming physically loaded with debris, allowing more of the carbon's adsorption capacity to be used for its intended purpose. If excessive debris enters the carbon vessel it decreases the backwashing effectiveness, due to the solids creating compaction and channeling within the media making it more difficult to fluidise during backwashing. Biological fouling can be reduced as components such as algae or organic fragments are reduced.

Protection of irrigation spray / drip nozzles
Many irrigation emitters and spray nozzles have passages that can become blocked by fine suspended solids. A self-cleaning filter provides continuous protection without the need for manual cartridge or screen cleaning.
The self cleaning filter typically removes contaminants such as fine sand , organic matter and other suspended solids.
The benefits from installing our filter included preventing nozzle and dripper blockage, maintaining uniform irrigation distribution, and still allowing continuous irrigation during automatic cleaning cycles.

Filtration of cooling water and recycled process water
A side-stream self-cleaning filter continuously removes suspended solids from cooling tower water or recycled process water in industrial facilities. This eliminates these contaminants before they accumulate in heat exchangers, cooling towers and pipework.
The typical contaminants removed include corrosion products, wind-blown dust, fine sand, and scale particles.
The benefits include a reduction in fouling of heat exchangers, improved heat transfer efficiency, extended equipment life, reduced chemical consumption, and the maintenance of water quality with minimal operator intervention.
